In this shoot I wanted to capture the pets in there normal day to day lives and with there owners and relation ships. For these shoots I needed alot of help to distract the cats and get them interested in looking in my direction. I used bits of chicken and tangly toys to get the cats to look at me or in my direction and I got my partner Will to wave around and call the cats to try get their attention.
I really wanted to capture the relation ship between Oscar and Sue and also Garrus and Will's relationship. I think the photo that I think best describes Oscar and Sue's relationship would have to be the one were Sue is reading the newspaper and Oscar is on the other side of the table looking abit fierce. I feel it shows an accurate representation of his personality and the relationship. When you think about reading the paper with your cat, you imagin him or her snuggled up on your lap or at your feet, but in this picture it shows a very different story, I think it shows the lack of trust the pet and the owner have together, but close enough that they get along together. I feel like the picture with Will patting Oscar also fits into the mix because it shows the other side of him, the loving cuddly cat hat he can be half of the time. Oscar is a really loving cat cuddly cat but some times he gets too aggressive and can do alot of damage, he has actually sent Sue to the hospital a few times from his deep bites. When ever anyone comes over the are warned about him and he is shut outside so that he cant accidentally hurt anyone.
I think the picture that captured the relationship between William and Garrus would have to be the image of Will holding Garrus like a princess outside the lemon tree. I wanted to show the awkwardness in Garrus and how much Will loves him, I feel that this picture really captures that. At first glance this picture may not be the best composition or focus but it is my favorite because you can see so much expression in their faces. Garrus is a very awkward cat, hes a big gental giant whos scared of the smallest sounds and gets very embarrassed when he is the center of attention or when people laugh at him. I feel like I captured this in the image, and the look on Wills face looking at him lovingly. for this picture I didnt have to set up much, i choose the lemon tree because its Garrus's favorite spot and I loved the colour of the lemons with his orange fur. The rest of the awkwardness happend naturally.
I think what i learned from this shoot is that I will need help to keep the cats occupied and to not give them treats untill i am actually taking the photo!
You need to do some evaluation and contextualisation in this post. What were you trying to achieve in this shoot and what was your approach in shooting each animal? Which are the images that represent your idea the best? What did you learn from this shoot that you will take to the next one? What would you change?
