Week 4 camera raw exercises - Digital tech

Description: In this image I have made it brighter using the basic tab. The original image is too dark as seen by the blue highlights were there is no detail shown. I increase my settings until the blue was gone and the picture was brighter.
Description: This picture was under exposed, I used the settings under basic to increase the whites in this image too make it brighter.
Description: I got rid of the marks and nail marks on the board behind the subject using the heal tool.
Description: This tool makes it easier to remove the lines and marks on the board.

Spot Removal


Description: With the visualize vectors tool I can see the spots more clearly and see what I normally wouldn't be able to see.
Description: With the clone tool I can clone similar areas and remove things like the birds and spots on the image from the camera lens from the image.
Description: With the clone tool I can also use it to copy parts of things I want more of in an image. I can use it to add more birds.

Week 4 Texture andpositive/negative space - Yousuf Karsh - camera use




Yousuf Karsh


Yousuf was born on the 23rd of December in 1908. While he was growing up he witnessed the great famine and lost his sister too starvation. Yousuf's photography mainly consists of portraits with studio lights of artists, statesmen, authors, musicians, scientists and other men and woman who were famous. His photos are very elegant and compassionate.

Thoughts: The texture in this photo is in the mans beard. There is barley any negative space in this image just the back of the wall behind the subject.
Thoughts: there is a lot of negative space in this image. The negative space is the background and he black shirt and hat the man is wearing. The positive space in this image is his face. There is a lot of texture in his skin and winkles.
Thoughts: The negative space in this image is the background around the subject and his black shirt. There is a lot of texture in his face and hair.
Thoughts: The is a lot of texture in the woman's hair and in her shit. The negative space in this image is the background.
Thoughts: The texture in this picture is the subjects hair and jumper. The positive space in this image is the subject with the negative space being the background. 
Thoughts: The texture in this image is in the mains mustache and hair, also in the wrinkles on his face and hands. The negative space in this image in his black jacket and the black background. The positive space is his face and hands.

Week 4 Texture andpositive/negative space - Hiroshi Sugimoto - camera use



Hiroshi Sugimoto


Hiroshi Sugimoto was born on the 23rd of February 1948 in Japan. Sugimoto became a photography in the 1970s. He works primarily in large black and white photographs. He usually photographs dioramas, Buddhist sculptures, theaters and seascapes.

Thoughts: The statues in this image create a lot of texture and pattern.
Thoughts: The negative space in this image is the black curtain and the main subject of this image is the mains face and chest.
Thoughts: This image is split evenly with positive and negative space. The positive space in this image is the ocean and the negative space is the sky.
Thoughts: The texture in this image in the ceiling and the decorative walls. the negative space in this image is the center screen which is pure white.
Thoughts: The positive space in this image is the white out circular window. the negative space is the wall around it.
Thoughts: All the texture in this image as been muted by the blur in this image, this has been turned in to negative space. The positive space in this image is the ceiling.

Week 4 Line and Pattern - Paul Strand - Camera use



Paul Strand


Paul Strand was born on the 16th of October in 1890. Strand was a photographer who help make photography an art form in the 20th century. Most of his photography consists of urban hustle scenes, street portraits and formal abstractions.


Thoughts: The leading lines in this image are the lines in the stairs and also the lines of the railing. The patterns in the stairs and shadows really draw attention to the center of the image.
Thoughts: The leading lines in this image are the wooden dividers and the patters of the white tiles in the wall.
Thoughts: The leading lines in this image are the walls there is lots of repetition in this image making patterns along the wall.
Thoughts: The leading lines in this image are the walls and bricks of the building. The steep angle this photo is taking on really draws you in.
Thoughts: The leading lines in this image are the frame work and wood in this building and also the wooden deck and hills in the top frame of the image. There is a lot of patterns with the windows and wood grain.
Thoughts: The leading lines in this image are the rectangular windows in the wall and the railing and also the shadows of the people.

Week 4 Line and Pattern - Boyd Webb - Camera use



Boyd Webb 

Boyd Webb was born in 1947 in Christchurch, New Zealand. He went to Ilam school of art in 1968. In 1972 he went to study in London at the Royal College of art. He developed his own style of surreal landscapes in the 1980's and went on to concentrate on a more still life style of photography.

Thoughts: The leading lines in this image is the bottom of the green blanket, it starts from the middle of each side if the picture, they curve and lead the eye to the center if the image.
Thoughts: The leading lines in this image is the water, it leads you to the two people in the image, another leading line ins the lines on the musical instrument, it leads you to the man lying on the floor.
Thoughts: One of the leading lines in this picture is the line separating the image threw the middle between the dirt and the pavement wall. Another leading line is the cord from the heater, it draws your eye too the heater.
Thoughts: The leading lines in this image are the walls and the lines on and below the walls. It leads your eye the the person on the floor and down from the negative space.
Thoughts: The leading lines in this image is the outside of the blue sheet, it leads you to the books and other objects.
Thoughts: The leading lines in this picture is the lines between the white objects it draws you to the person hanging from the ceiling.

Week 3 Vantage point, Fore/mid/background - Henri Cartier-Bresson (Camera use)



Henri Cartier-Bresson


Henri was born in 1908. He first started painting surrealism and then he moved on to photography. He was a taken as a prisoner of war in 1940 but managed to escape in 1943. With a group of journalists he photographed the liberation of Paris and then also filmed a documentary The Return. He founded Magnum photos and spent 3 years traveling and returned to Europe and published a book The Decisive Moment. He died in his home on the 3rd of August in 2004.

Thoughts: The vantage point in this image is a high angle. The  for ground in this photo is the picture and the girl holding it and the background in this image is the road and the bushes.
Thoughts: The vantage point on this image is a high median angle.  The foreground in this photo is the boat/raft and the background in this image ins the water and bushes.
Thoughts: The vantage point on this image seems to be straight on. The foreground is the cross and the break in the earth and the background ins the mountain and field.
Thoughts: The vantage point is straight on, it looks as if Henri is crouching down to get this shot. The foreground is the people in this image and  the background is the sky and the mountains.
Thoughts. The vantage point is a low angle in this photo. the foreground in this image is the tall trees and the background is the fields on either side of the road.
Thoughts: The vantage point is a high angle in this image. The foreground is the boat and the background is the people sitting on the crash eating.

Week 3 Vantage point, Fore/mid/background - Herbert List (Camera use)



Herbert List


List was born on the 7th of October in 1903 in Germany. He had wealth parents that owned a coffee brokerage business that he apprenticed for. He began taking photos while on business trips and in 1936 he left Germany and moved to Paris and became a photographer professionally. A lot of his photographs were portraits and artistic avantgarde photos in black and white. He worked with magazines like Life, Vogue and Harper's Bazaar. He passed away on the 4th April 1975.

Thoughts: The vantage point in this image is looking down, the foreground in this image ins the  top of the brick wall and the fish in the glass vase. The background in this image is the ocean and the island. This photo really shows how steep up the the photographer.
Thoughts: The vantage point in this image is a low angle from the photographer , straight on to the goblets of water and jug. The foreground in this image is the table containing the goblets of water. The background in this image is the mountain with the structure in it. 
Thoughts: The vantage point on this image is a low angle  making the dog look very bold and powerful. The  foreground in this image is the dog and his person. The background in this image is the water and the mountains.
Thoughts: There is a low vantage point in this image making the kids look really bold and heroic. the background in this image its just sky. This puts more of the focus on the kids.
Thoughts: There is a low vantage point on this image making the boy s look strong and bold. The boys are in the foreground and the mountains and water are in the background.
Thoughts: There is a high vantage point to this image. The foreground in this image is the reflection of this buildings in the mirror and the background in this image is the wall, outside and the window and window  frames.
